A passage from the book that is significant is on page 5, "' And what am i supposed to tell people about my parents?' 'Just tell them the truth,' Mom said. ' That's simple enough.'" This is significant because it sets up the whole reason why Jeannette Walls wrote this book. At one point she was afraid and embarrassed to share her story. After her mother told her this, a lot of fear was lifted off her shoulders and she's strong enough to tell her story.
A passage from the book that is significant is, "I was sitting in a taxi, wondering if I had overdressed for the evening, when I look out the window and saw Mom rooting through a Dumpster." (pg.3) I think this is significant because it shows what different life styles they now have. While Jeannette is wondering if she has over dressed her mother is searching for things she needs in trash.
