This book is about her life growing up with her parents. They travel a lot because they always get into trouble with the law or other people. The struggles they encounter may seam tragic some times.
I agree with Andrew that is story has many struggles and they are sometimes tragic. I also think this about a family's story to survive. Its all about forgiveness. The kids have to forgive their parents for not spending their money wisely and for leaving them behind in some cases. Without this, it would be a whole other story.
My interpretation of the book on a deeper level is that is shows the love of a family and how they all work through everything together. Even though the parents are not responsible, the kids still look up to then and stand by them in everything.
